Airbnb's biggest threat yet could be a bill targeting New York landlords
“Belong Anywhere” — for no fewer than 30 days.
A bill just passed by the New York legislature makes it illegal for a person to advertise an entire home on websites like Airbnb for 29 days or less. Short term rentals are already illegal in New York, but there was no law forbidding the advertising of such rentals until now.
The proposed legislation will place fines of up to $7,500 on those caught posting such offers online. The bill will now pass to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who will either sign it into law or veto it.
